Americans killed in an avalanche in the Himalayas

An avalanche struck a climbers' base camp in Nepal's Himalayas on Monday morning around 9 a.m. local time, killing seven people and injuring four others while four more remain missing. The victims included three Americans, one Canadian, one Italian, and two Nepali nationals. The incident occurred at Yalung Ri Himal, a 5,630-meter peak in Dolakha district northeast of Kathmandu, within the Rolwaling Valley known for its rock, ice, and snow terrain.
The affected group was a team of 15, comprising foreign climbers and Nepali guides, en route to summit Yalung Ri when the avalanche hit. Four injured climbers were evacuated to a nearby village for treatment. Nepalese media, including The Kathmandu Post, reported the event as breaking news with details still emerging.

Search and rescue operations are underway, involving ground teams from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force. A helicopter was sent but unable to access the site due to poor weather conditions. Police official Gyan Kumar Mahato stated: "We have also dispatched ground search-and-rescue teams from the army and police and are awaiting (developments)."
