Urgent recall on over 135,000 vehicles that are prone to electrical fires

In this DML Report…
Hyundai has issued an urgent recall for over 135,000 gas-powered 2024 and 2025 Santa Fe SUVs in the United States due to a potential electrical short that could ignite a fire during a crash. The issue stems from certain engine components that may crumple upon impact, triggering the short circuit. These vehicles were manufactured between December 2023 and July 2025 at Hyundai's assembly plant in Alabama. The Santa Fe, a three-row SUV and one of Hyundai's core models, has seen more than 100,000 units sold in the United States this year alone.

Safety regulators confirmed the recall on Wednesday, with no incidents of fire reported to date. Hyundai has developed a fix and directed dealerships to perform the repairs free of charge, including providing complimentary alternative transportation to affected customers during the service. Owners will receive official recall notices starting in early December and are advised to schedule the repair at an authorized Hyundai dealership promptly upon notification.

This marks Hyundai's 14th recall of the year, placing it sixth among major automakers, with five of those recalls involving electric component issues and a total of more than 700,000 vehicles affected overall. Earlier this year, in the summer, Hyundai recalled 12,000 Santa Fe vehicles for a software glitch that could cause the SUVs to roll away unexpectedly.
