SNOW WOKE (& BROKE): Disney’s woke Snow White remake is a colossal financial failure
Disney's 2025 live-action remake of Snow White generated a net loss of approximately $170 million.
The film had total production costs of $336.5 million, including $183.3 million spent by July 2022. Filmed in the United Kingdom, Disney formed a subsidiary company, Hidden Heart Productions, to meet local requirements and received a $64.9 million reimbursement from the UK government, bringing net expenses to $271.6 million. After theaters retained roughly half of the ticket sales, Disney's estimated revenue from the box office was $102.9 million.
The production budget surpassed those of several prior Disney successes, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast, which earned $1.3 billion worldwide. The latest cost filings, covering the period through December 31, 2024, were disclosed less than three months before the film's release.

The project drew criticism throughout its development. In 2022, actor Peter Dinklage called the original 1937 story "backwards" in reference to the seven dwarfs. Disney initially planned to replace the dwarfs with multiracial and gender-mixed "magical creatures" in 2023, but ultimately used computer-generated mythological versions. Lead actress Rachel Zegler criticized the classic film and made public statements opposing Israel and President Trump.
The movie has been nominated for a Razzie Award as one of the worst films of 2025.
