RIP: Popular influencer dies attempting dangerous stunt
In this DML Report…
Colombian content creator Angel Montoya, aged 30, died after attempting a stunt during a livestream on a bridge over the Cauca River in Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
Montoya, known for short-form videos and daring stunts on social platforms, jumped into the river after saying "see you later" in Spanish. Footage showed him struggling to swim against the current, appearing to lose mobility in his arm upon impact with the water. A person filming warned that the current would sweep him away, and he was quickly carried off by the river's flow, which was heightened due to heavy rainfall in the region.
Local authorities initiated a search following the incident, with the Bugalagrande Volunteer Fire Department and firefighters from neighboring municipalities leading rescue efforts. The operation was complicated by elevated water levels from recent heavy rains affecting nearly 25 municipalities, including flash floods and torrential downpours. Montoya's body was recovered on January 30, 2026, three days after the jump, found floating several miles downstream from the bridge. The Valle del Cauca’s Security of Risk Management office confirmed the recovery.

Social media users posted tributes expressing sorrow and highlighting the dangers of such stunts, with comments noting the underestimation of risks and the river's hazards, even for locals. Examples included statements like "What happens to people who don't measure danger" and "Very sad! Young people who think they are brave by getting high and challenging God with their dangerous stunts." Francisco Tenorio, a representative for the department, urged the public not to risk lives during the rainy season, emphasizing that life is the most precious gift and should not be endangered.
Montoya's final livestream has circulated widely online.
