ARRESTED: NFL star’s father detained after violating probation from DWI incident

In this DML Report…
Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested on February 3, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, for an alleged probation violation and booked into the Smith County Jail at 11:24 a.m. local time.

The violation reportedly stems from a high alcohol reading detected on his ankle monitor on January 1, 2026. Subsequent urine tests conducted on January 5 and January 9, 2026, returned negative results. A motion has been filed to dismiss the violation allegation, and Mahomes Sr. has the opportunity to challenge the claims in court.

The probation originated from a DWI arrest on February 3, 2024, also in Tyler, where his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.23. He was sentenced to five years of probation in September 2024, with the potential for up to 10 years in prison if the terms are violated. This was not his first such offense; Mahomes Sr. had been arrested three times previously for driving while intoxicated. In 2018, he was arrested and sentenced to 40 days in county jail, which he served on weekends from February 2019 to February 2020.

Following the 2024 arrest, his son, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, commented that his father was "doing good" and described it as a family matter he preferred to keep private. In the ESPN docuseries "The Kingdom," Mahomes II noted that the incident had a sobering effect on his father, stating it "woke him up" after realizing it hurt his son. Mahomes Sr. described the 2024 event as "the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through in my life" and said he called his son to apologize for diverting attention from his focus.

Patrick Mahomes II has not yet commented on the February 2026 arrest.
